“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
The discernment process is exhausting. But for a neurodivergent candidate, there is a second, hidden layer of exhaustion: the effort it takes to mask. Trying to write the perfect linear essay, pretending you understood a dense theological text, or fighting to stay perfectly still in a meeting drains your spirit before you even start praying.
Lent is an invitation into the wilderness, and the wilderness is the one place you don’t need a mask. Jesus is offering rest, but you cannot rest if you are constantly holding your breath to look “normal”.
The Question: Where in your discernment journey are you using up all your energy trying to look neurotypical?
